in any 1v1, a good player will take an enchantement removal spell (rend enchantments for example), to stop an neutralize an invincability build.
as for mesmers, obsidian flesh/spell breaker and they cant do anything, while you blast away at them. you can also remove hexes...
edit: but im not here to talk about this!!! i dont wanna find a counter to everything!
all i wanted to do with this post, was to suggest the part about gambling a certain amount of money, YET NOBODY HAS RESPONDED TO THAT!!!
if you wanna say how a mesmer can kill anything, or how 1v1 is terrible, go post somewhere else!
im just saying that IF a 1v1 battling system will exist, you should be able to fight for a small amount of your enemies money INSTEAD of faction, to avoid rigging the battles.
if you wanna tell me that THAT idea sucks, go right ahead and if you agree with me, even better.
but please dont post about how cruel a 1v1 system will be to necros and so on and so forth.

Go to LA or Team arena.. you'll see enchant removal maybe once every 20 games?

I think 1v1 would be great, just to annoy your guildies and friends. thus, i doubt anyone will take invinci-craps to annoy someone they know in 1v1 (i have a 55 monk, im not a damn hater, btw). If it becomes a competition sort of thing with ladders and whatnot...er...retarded.

Betting
I think that betting would be a good edition, but the ESRB would have to add gambling to the game's rating. I just want a one on one arena system. I really like the idea of having a practice arena in a guild hall. It would be nice to have storage and private traders implemented soon in guild halls.

The only positive reason I can see for a 1v1 is too test out skills or how much damage x build does. GW isn't meant for 1v1.

I like the idea.
It's voluntary, betting is optional and like the Kolman said, it would be great for testing out 1v1 skill sets.
What an awesome way to find out how your toon matches up with other classes using multiple skill sets. Very educational giving experience that can be taken into random, team and HoH arenas.
Of coarse, the experience can and is gained through those same arena's now, but it isn't as controlled a test as one might prefer.
Lastly, as with all ideas, I can see where others might abuse this feature by spamming challenges and flaming others when they don't want anything to do with it. It could really give someone a disproportionate sense of how great they are when they really aren't that good.
But w/e. I still like it.

as for spamming challenges and what not, there should be a subtler way of viewing chalenges that are given to you. instead of trade-like pop-ups, there should be a new page you can access via some key on your keyboard, where all the challenges are listed.
there is a problem, come to think of it, where a player may quit before the battle is over, or during a random fight, when he sees he wouldn't be able to win. in 1v1 battles, there should be a penalty for this. im not talking about xp penalty or something drastic, but more on the likes of: you quit before the battle ends, you cant enter another 1v1 battle in the next 10 minutes. that will hurt the abillity of people trying to annoy others alot.

I think a challenge button would be cool, say if you were fighting in 4v4, GVG whatever, and you really wanted to fight someone 1v1 but didnt get the chance, you could challenge them and the opponent can agree or refuse. The challenger will be put in an arena so that they could not change their skill bar, and as soon as the challenged person dies or finishes they will be transported there, so that they could also not change their bar.
But just plain 1v1 would be fun in a way, but I would just throw my all round mesmer in and it just be boring after a while.

Guild wars was designed to be a team game, so that's the reason they haven't done something like this yet. The main thing I wouldn't like about it, is all the people who would say "you couldn't beat me 1 on 1 therefore I'm better than you." People like that REALLY annoy me a lot, otherwise I really don't have any reason to be oppose to the idea.

after hours of hard work i think i got what he means:
you shouldn't be able to go on random 1v1 battles, because then people would just disconnect if they see a character that can beat them.
instead, you should be able to decide rules before the fight. rules like "no one will flee during a battle for regeneration purposes", or "interruption isn't allowed", that will reduce the disconnection thingie
i think thats what he ment, and i think its a great idea.

Gambling should be required for 1v1. In other words, you both have to wager something, even just 1gp.
It's a challenge. Not required, and there should be a payoff for the winner.
The solution for running away, is to use tiny maps, so that at all times, you are both in each others aggro circle.

I think having a PvE arena would be great. Imagine this, as you play the RPG with a character the monsters you face will be unlocked as you kill them and in this PvE area you will be able to battle them at a certain quantity. Have a four on infinate monster battle see how long you can last.

i got an idea they could have a battle in any city just like u can invite to a group u could ask for a fight insted and they could accept or decline and u zone to a small battle ground and fight it out for money or just pride

i think its better to just have a specified area for challenges, that way your lvl 12 character isnt constantly spammed with challenges by a lvl 20 character with golden weapons...

I'm for the idea. Not because of how good or bad it would be to
have it, but because it adds more things to do in the game. pretty
much what im saying is: more features the better. and 1 on 1 pvp
would a great thing to have as a new feature
